The Charities

Now that I’m halfway, I thought that it might be an opportune moment to remind you of the charities for whom I am raising money.

Plymouth Hospitals Trust - Derriford  Renal Unit
Derriford  Renal Unit has a team of Specialist Nurses which supports the patient and family in the lead up to the surgery and assists in provision of accommodation for families from Cornwall through a special fund administered by the Plymouth Hospitals Trust.

Age UK Cornwall & The Isle of Scilly
Following my sister’s discharge from hospital she was required attend Derriford (a 100 mile round trip) at least twice a week (I think the highest number was five times in one week), sometimes at short notice, for appointments, tests and check ups. As she had had major surgery, she was not allowed to drive and so Age UK, through their TAP Community Transport service, provided a car and driver to my sister at no cost.

You may have noticed that there is a little Children In Need Pudsey hanging from a brake cable in a few photos. Children In Need is the charity of the year for Lloyds Banking Group, for whom my girlfriend works. As part of their fundraising efforts they have a collection of Pudseys which they take on holiday and photograph (I’m now getting used to carrying a teddy around foreign lands). These photos will be used to make a calendar next year to sell and raise money. I was asked to take a little Pudsey with me on my ride and he has been in my pocket all the way (and is slightly off colour following Saturday’s rain).
